When we were planning where we wanted to go for our honeymoon earlier this year, we knew we wanted to go someplace warm, but not humid. We wanted to be able to see and do cool things, but also be able to just relax. Planning a wedding is hard work and we needed this vacay.
I personally was desperate to go to the Caribbean, and in particular, Antigua. In case you didn’t realise, it is absolute paradise. The beaches are some of the most beautiful in the world and are very popular for honeymoons. Just look online for pictures of Long Island beach, Dickenson Bay and Darkwood beach and you’ll fall in love, just as I did. I even found the most beautiful villas (see https://www.exceptionalvillas.com/antigua to fall in love with Antigua just a little more) and found the perfect flights and everything. But Matt wasn’t so keen, as he said that it was the off-season there in November which meant potential rain and hurricanes. The chance of a hurricane is near to nothing so I wasn’t having that, but I understood where he was coming from with the chance of more rain. As much as my heart was set on Antigua, I wanted to go somewhere that we were both excited for as it was our honeymoon after all. After lengthy discussions, we chose New Zealand and Australia because the weather was going to be perfect there and there is so much to do and see. As was the case for Antigua, it was also winter, hurricane season, or just too cold in November most of the other places we had considered. Plus, when would we get another chance to take two weeks off from work again and travel across the globe?
First stop: New Zealand!
While in NZ, you must check out Hobbiton, the setting for The Shire that is featured in the Peter Jackson directed films. This was at the top of Matt’s list and I’m always down to check out beautiful scenery! What we saw amazed us.
No filter needed. This place was awesome!
Stopped for a selfie on the side of “road” (you say road, I say bike path) on our drive back to our hotel in Rotorua. See the “road” below.
Next post: Rotorua and Auckland!
